Jessy Remsburg – Professional Team Roper

John Dowdy:

Hello and welcome to this week's Equinety podcast. We're swinging out into the big state of Texas. We've got professional team roper, healer, Jessy Remsburg on the call. Jesse. Welcome to the Equinety podcast.

Jessy Remsburg:

Thanks for having me.

John Dowdy:

It's always a pleasure and I know you are super busy out there. You've been tearing it up out in the field these days. So giving a little bit of your background. We'll go back to 2019 although it goes back further than. 2019 you were the Gig Dog Reserved Champion, 2020 Spoke Invitational Open All Girl Champion and also the WCRA Women's Championship Average Winner. And then this past weekend, you also secured a fast track qualification to the 2021 Women's Rodeo World Championship. Also you are the 2021 All-Star Team Roping Finals Ladies Open Championship. That is a lot.

Jessy Remsburg:

Yes, sir.

John Dowdy:

How long you have you been roping?

Jessy Remsburg:

I turned my first year when I was 10 years old. I started out heading, [inaudible 00:01:17] box. I didn't start healing until about... well it's been a while now. Probably been healing for about 10 years now.

John Dowdy:

What was it that about the team roping that caught your attention? Because there's a lot of different things to do out there, barrel racing and bulldogging. You could do some bulldogging and a bull riding.

Jessy Remsburg:

My dad's family has a ranch down in south Florida. So I grew up around cows and horses. My cousin Morgan Jones ropes and he lives up in north Alabama where I live now. We've just always been obsessed with it really and just been [inaudible 00:02:07] and it's just been fun.

John Dowdy:

Yeah. Was it kind of an automatic thing to start off heading?

Jessy Remsburg:

Yeah. I think it was a safety kind of with my dad. My dad always says, "If you can't head you definitely don't need to heal."

John Dowdy:

Hey, that's good advice. Right?

Jessy Remsburg:

That's just how it had to be. So that's what I did it for a long time. I love to head I just don't get to head anymore.

John Dowdy:

Yeah. I know they need too many of the healers then. So I guess you got pretty darn good at heading and sounds like and then you switched back to a healing. What kind of transformation was that? Transition rather would be the correct word, transition.

Jessy Remsburg:

It was fun. That's what I always wanted to do. I always wanted to be a great healer. Still got a lot of work to do but I've always wanted to be good at healing. I always worked for a header so I just healed and healed and healed and got to where it just got a lot easier. I mean it's not easy by any means.

John Dowdy:

Yeah, no doubt. So as you're growing up and you're watching all kinds of people, was there someone that you kind of looked up to as you were a young girl growing up and roping and things? Was there somebody that just really inspired you?

Jessy Remsburg:

As a team roper Beverly always inspired me, but as a healer, I always looked up to Joseph Harrison and his horsemanship and his hero horses and how he healed. I've always looked up to him.

John Dowdy:

Yeah. That's pretty awesome. And then you mentioned Beverly Robbins. What was it about her that was inspirational?

Jessy Remsburg:

It's just awesome. Just one of the best female headers ever. She went to the BFI and she made it the short round and placed, and it was just really neat for her to be in there with all those roping guys and actually compete. She's from where I grew up, sort of, my mother's family's from up there. So I spent every summer up there and every chance we got, if it was raining or something, she had the only indoor arena. So we got to go over there and sometimes we got to watch her rope or something. So that was just neat.

John Dowdy:

Yeah. You are now roping, this is your main partner. How long have you guys been roping together?

Jessy Remsburg:

We've been roping together for a while now. Probably about 10 years.

John Dowdy:

Nice.

Jessy Remsburg:

I worked for her now. I think I've been working for her about five years now so that's when we really started going. And so yeah, she's fun to rope behind. She's [inaudible 00:05:34]

John Dowdy:

Do you remember what it was like the first time that you roped with her, were your nerves shot her? What was that like?

Jessy Remsburg:

It was long time ago. I was living in Florida at the time and she out of the blue she texts and asked me if I wanted to go to the Wildfire, it was an all-girl roping [inaudible 00:05:58] It was really cold so it was like in February every year. And-

John Dowdy:

Now when you say cold, are you talking Florida cold or a Northern state cold?

Jessy Remsburg:

Texas cold.

John Dowdy:

Okay. All right.

Jessy Remsburg:

So I was like, "Okay, yeah, I'll go." And so we went and I was pretty nervous and we ended up winning second.

John Dowdy:

Nice.

Jessy Remsburg:

Yeah. That was pretty big deal for me back then.

John Dowdy:

Yeah, I'd say. Now there's got to be some kind of a banter back and forth, who's more important the header or the healer?

Jessy Remsburg:

Well, if you ask Beverly, the header's the quarterback. You have to set it up and get out of the bay area, handle the cow good because you got to handle [inaudible 00:06:51] for me. So it's probably the header but I [inaudible 00:06:55] her healing [inaudible 00:06:59]

John Dowdy:

Yeah. I'm sure that's all good. But of course if they don't do their part initially, then you're kind of lost out there, I guess.

Jessy Remsburg:

Yeah, exactly right. It's the header that sets it up. Good for you.

John Dowdy:

Yeah. That's awesome. So let's see. How many main horses do you have that you're hauling? Because I'm sure you're pretty much living on the road for the most part going all over.

Jessy Remsburg:

I have two main horses, my bay, Hooey, and then my sorrel, his name is Cajun. For the longest time the sorrel was my number one for years then I bought my bay [inaudible 00:07:46] with Harrison and he became number one fairly quick. And so now I'm hauling them both after I got them on the product, Cajun has come back, I feel like. And so I'm hauling them both now. It feels a lot better to have two that you can take to the roping and being competitive on instead of just one because if something happens to that one then you're kind of out. It's fun. I haven't ever been in a situation where I have two really nice horses to go compete on. I've always had a nice horse, but not two. I'm really proud of both of them right now. I'm going to have a nice four year old coming up behind them. So I'm excited about my [inaudible 00:08:34].

John Dowdy:

Yeah, that sounds real nice. Being in the business that you're in, you're out there, it's important to have these horses in the tip top shape. Prior to finding the Equinety product were you typically dealing with any things going on with your horses on a regular basis or were they always just kind of in great shape and always no problems?

Jessy Remsburg:

My bay, he's always seemed to pull everything pretty good, but my sorrel, I've seen a big difference from him. He wouldn't hold up. I can run five steers on him and then he was done. I had to go to a rope and that I could only just the forehead average to where I could only run four steers now. He would get all hot and he wouldn't stand in the box. He's turned around completely. I'm so glad to have him back. The other day I had the rope in hand from 25 head of cattle and he was perfect on every one of them. So excited to have him back.

John Dowdy:

Yeah. So that's all just since you started using the Equinety products.

Jessy Remsburg:

Yes.

John Dowdy:

Wow. For those of you who are tuning in, we're talking to Jessy Remsburg, professional team roper, healer, the real fun side of the roping business. What's really interesting with this product. I tell people all the time, it's not a miracle supplement, it does some miraculous things, but what it's specifically designed to do is give the body what it needs to help repair itself at the cellular level. More specifically it stimulates the pituitary gland, which is the gland that releases hormones and then the body is able to send its own hormones to its own problem areas. So that's why it helps in so many ways. It works really fast, within hours it starts going to work.

And I would say within the 30 day mark, the vast majority of people are seeing changes. One of the things through the years now we've been on the market about seven and a half years, and even in the high performance horses that don't really have any issues, people still notice the changes. You were talking about your sorrel horse in, prior to us recording this podcast, you were mentioning to me, he was kind of hot and acting silly and he would purposely do things to try to screw you up. How would explain how that happens out there maybe to those who aren't privy to a team roping?

Jessy Remsburg:

Well, his biggest thing is he likes cut the corner, like come in too soon. When he was getting hot and not focusing he would just do it. It was a whole fight the whole run and that created nothing but problems. And another thing, when I would rope the steer and go to the saddle horn, he would try to move the saddle horn. I don't know if that makes sense. He's just jumping and I'd miss my dally a lot on him. So just things like that. Now he just stops in square and he lets me... He'll cut in if you let him but he's not fighting me. I definitely have to ride, but he's just easier to ride.

John Dowdy:

Yeah. I think too, and you kind of mentioned this, one of the best ways to describe how the product is working is it helps just balance the horse from the inside out. Would you agree with that?

Jessy Remsburg:

Yes.

John Dowdy:

Yeah, and what are some of the other things that you've noticed since using the product? You're using it now in three horses but two of your main horses and then your young one.

Jessy Remsburg:

Just gotten super shiny and their coats look great and their feet are good. They've always been in good [inaudible 00:13:04] but it just looks different. They look fantastic. Their tails and mane are getting full and they're beautiful now. [inaudible 00:13:15] product.

John Dowdy:

Yeah. And I think too, it's one of those things where you've been doing this for a lot of years, I'm sure you've used a lot of different things through the years. So you would know what works, what doesn't work. You've got your staple feeding program and everything is working as it should. And then you change the element of just adding the Equinety Horse XL and the Equinety Ultimate OEC and now you notice even more changes all on the positive with your sorrel horse being more calm in his skin. Let's talk a little bit about some other things that you've noticed being on the road all the time, hauling all over the place. Typically, when you would get back home prior to using these products-

Jessy Remsburg:

They were tired and when they get home now they're ready to go. They're perky and they just feel good. You can tell that they're not tired and ready to go. They get a break once we get home but I don't feel like they need one. And if they don't get one then they're ready to hear

John Dowdy:

Yeah. The overall recovery and the stamina and focus. Yeah. Yep. And that in your business is definitely important.

Jessy Remsburg:

Yeah.

John Dowdy:

So going back to your profession as a team roper, and for those of the ones who are listening in that don't know a lot about team roping, how does that typically work are y'all running on points? You're out trying to accumulate as many points as you can. Explain a little bit how that works and you've got your main partner Bev but then there's other times where you go out and you'll draw partners. So talk a little bit about how all that works.

Jessy Remsburg:

Say in the winter there's a rope and you can enter two times, but usually in All Girls there [inaudible 00:15:30]. My other partner is Sara Angelone and so if I win with my trial runs that all counts points as well. I think you have to pay for your extra runs, or you don't get the money, but the points count either way, so it doesn't matter how you get points. It doesn't matter who you get points with. It all counts. You don't have to win with your regular partner. I'm just going to rope with her at the end, she's my main run, she's nine number one run but that doesn't mean I can't run with others.

John Dowdy:

Yep. So you're just trying to accumulate as many points as you can and then at the end of the season there's a cutoff so whoever has X amount of points goes to the big show and whoever didn't make the points you're done until next season.

Jessy Remsburg:

No, now they have preliminaries out there with every CRA so you can make it to the end, it's not over. You can still make it to the end and in the fast track [inaudible 00:16:46] they're in the top 16 so out of that top 16 I think they take two from that and they go to the top eight and then I guess from the preliminary rounds, they take so many. I think at the end there's eight so I think they take two from the fast track, one already in there, and I guess they take five more from the preliminaries. I feel like that's how it's going to go.

John Dowdy:

Yeah. It's almost like one of those where, and probably the people that are hearing this for the first time, they're just like, "Just tell me where to show up to rope and then tell me where to go next."

Jessy Remsburg:

Yeah, [inaudible 00:17:30]

John Dowdy:

Yeah. "Did I get a lot of points? Okay, then where's the next one? How about that?"

Jessy Remsburg:

Yes, that's how it goes.

John Dowdy:

That pretty much simplifies it. I know through your career I'm sure I've had a lot of opportunities to try different products. You've probably been approached by a lot of companies to sponsor their things. What was it about the Equinety product? How did you first come across it? How soon did you notice changes? And of course now you're a part of the team Equinety ambassador program. So welcome to team of Equinety. That is so awesome, out there representing us. But tell us a little bit about how you came across it and what made you want to kind of partner up with us.

Jessy Remsburg:

Well, I saw a commercial with Tyler Wade in it and just everything they said about the amino acids and the recovery time and stamina and helping them with the immune system and the good quality. I just sounded like something that would really help my horses and now Bev really put her horses on it and they're doing great. I saw some changes about a week into it and so it's just a great product.

John Dowdy:

Yeah. I would agree. Of course, I'm supposed to do that, but it's true. Yeah. I would say because our product works so quickly and I'm talking within hours, we've had people report to us, complete demeanor changes in their horse in two to three days and those are horses that have a lot of stress anxiety or a bit spooky. It really helps in those situations. You get in to about a week of using products and especially for the performance horse they just feel better under saddle, they're more focused, the recovery, the stamina. You get into the 30 day mark, a softer shinier coat, they're filling out, even people noticing some thicker sole depth for those that need that. That's one of the things that's so unique about the product is it doesn't fit into a specific supplement category.

And we're specifically talking about the Equinety Horse XL. It's 100% pure amino acids. There's no fillers, no sugars, no starches but because it doesn't fit into a specific horse supplement category. Again, I mentioned this before, but it's giving the body what it needs to release its own hormones and then the body is able to send its own hormones to its own problem areas. So that's why it helps in so many ways.

About a year and a half ago, we brought out with the help of Dr. Zach Bruggen, the Equinety Ultimate OEC. This is meant to work in combination with the amino acids because the amino acids are giving the body what it needs to help repair cells. The Equinety Ultimate OEC gives these repaired cells some nutrition, number one and two, it serves as a really powerful antioxidant which helps reduce inflammation. What this product is, it's a flaxseed-based Omega 3 oil, it's got a thousand IUs of natural cold pressed Vitamin E and it also has colloidal silver all in one. So it's a really streamlined two supplements and the results speak for themselves. You've seen what it's done for yours and you've talked about it. So it's pretty awesome. Do you have any palatability issues with the two products?

Jessy Remsburg:

No. They eat it just fine.

John Dowdy:

Yeah. And that's always a big concern with folks too but we don't seem to have any issues along those lines.

Jessy Remsburg:

They eat it right up.

John Dowdy:

That's great. Awesome. Jesse, before we sign off here, if there's anybody tuning in that might be on the fence about trying the Equinety product or if they might be interested in maybe getting into women's team roping would you have any advice in any of those topics?

Jessy Remsburg:

My advice about the Equinety is, get it. It'll really help the horses, and team roping, it's awesome. It's great. It's definitely a roller coaster ride but if you work hard at it you can do anything you set your mind to.

John Dowdy:

That is good advice. Awesome. Jess Remsburg out of Texas thank you so much for taking the time to share your story here on the Equinety podcast.

Jessy Remsburg:

All right, thanks for having me.

John Dowdy:

Oh, you bet. Thank you. Bye, bye.

Jessy Remsburg:

Bye
