Maegan Teykl – 3 legged – trauma to hoof - now working again
John Dowdy:
Hello and welcome to this week's Equinety podcast. We are swinging out into West Texas. We've got Maegan Teykl on the line this week. Maegan, Welcome to the Academy podcast.
Maegan Teykl:
Hello, and thank you so much for having me today.
John Dowdy:
Well, you're very welcome, and we're excited to hear another story here on the Team Equinety podcast. I don't recall if it was through Messenger or whatever, in one of these outlets, that you had sent in a testimonial. And I'm like, "Oh, boy, this will be a good one for a podcast." So, what we're going to be talking about is, this was your main horse. You show with it, you work cattle, and it just was it mystery lameness. It came up with one leg, and we're out of commission.
So let's talk about what you've used, how long have you had the horse, what are you're using the horse for? And then, tell us what happened when all of a sudden this lameness thing came up and the protocol that that happened. Then we'll talk about how you found the product and what's been going on since. That'll be the format.
Maegan Teykl:
Yes, sir. Well, she is a five-year-old bay mare. I purchased her as I long yearling, and I started her and did everything with her, and took her on a path for a training show horse. And she's also a using horse on the ranch here in the Panhandle. So, we were rocking and rolling in her four-year-old year, going to some shows and doing pretty well.
And in September of 2020, she came up lame one evening, and we don't know what it was or how she did it. And took her into a vet, and they thought it was a ligament injury, treated it accordingly. And she in about six to eight weeks seemed to get better. So, I went back to riding her, only to discover the lameness was still there. So, we gave her more time off. And in January of this year, just a few months ago, she still was very lame.
And I decided to take her to another vet that had an MRI machine on site, and try to get down to the bottom of what was going on. After doing an MRI, we discovered she was carrying a bunch of fluid in her foot. And the vet didn't know what had caused it, but thought we could get rid of it with some time. And we put a pad on her foot. And about the same time was when I discovered your product.
And I thought, "Well, I have nothing else to lose. And if these products really do help heal on a cellular level - and I've seen an ad floating around Facebook about some really great hoof testimonials - and knowing that's where my problems were lying, I wanted to give it a shot.
John Dowdy:
That makes sense.
Maegan Teykl:
Yes, sir. So, I ordered [crosstalk 00:03:02] ... Yes, sir?
John Dowdy:
Yeah. So at this time, your horse had been lame for what? For four months? Thereabout four to five months?
Maegan Teykl:
Four. Yes, sir. Four going on five months.
John Dowdy:
Yeah. So, you bought both of the products? The Equinety Horse XL and the Ultimate OEC. And I'll get into a little bit about exactly what those are here in just a minute. But you ordered those and you started your horse on it. And then, tell us what happened over the next little while.
Maegan Teykl:
It was great is what happened. Within a month, I was ... Within a couple of weeks, really, I was noticing she was really sound. And so, I started lunging her, getting her out, exercising her on one [inaudible 00:03:47]. And within a month I was riding her. We were just walking and doing the little bit of trotting in the arena. Nothing major, but yet it was leaps and bounds of progress in the right direction.
Then within two months, we were back in a pretty good workout routine, and we have been legging up and going back to work and getting ready for another show. Our first show back, come April.
John Dowdy:
Wow. That is great.
Maegan Teykl:
Yes, sir.
John Dowdy:
Oh, man. So, have you done any updated vet checks or anything since she's been back?
Maegan Teykl:
I have not. I've talked to my vet several times on the phone, and he thinks that as long as she's feeling good and I don't structurally feel anything that he doesn't see why she needs to come back.
John Dowdy:
Right. Yeah, that's good. So for those of you who are tuning in, maybe you're dealing with a situation, a mystery lameness, or any number of things, and you're looking for a product or products that are going to help repair at the cellular level, I'll quickly go through both of these products and a little bit of the science behind it, so you can really understand what they're doing.
The Equinety Horse XL is 100% pure amino acids. There's no fillers, no sugars, no starches, and there's no loading dose. And it's all based on the size of the pituitary gland. And that's why every horse gets the same dose, which is 5.2 grams, about like a teaspoon. And what these amino acids are specifically designed to do is stimulate the pituitary gland, which is the gland that releases the hormones for repair.
And once those hormones are released, then the body is able to send those hormones to the problem areas. So, it takes a lot of the guesswork out, and especially when you're dealing with a mystery type of a lameness. So it doesn't fall into the category of a host supplement, or a joint supplement, or muscle building, or recovery. We're just giving the body what it needs to help balance itself from the inside out.
And so, that's why it helps in so many ways. And one of the reasons why we started this podcast, just to capture these stories. And so, it's a great resource if you're looking around to say, "Hey, well, does this product help with this or that?" And odds are, we probably have several podcasts on that exact topic. So, we've been on the market seven years with the Equinety Horse XL.
Last year, we came out with Equinety Ultimate OEC with the help of Dr. Zach Bruggen out of Arkansas. And he was looking for just a really high quality oil combination. And so, what we came up with was a ... It's a flaxseed based omega three oil. It's got 1,000 IUs of natural vitamin E and colloidal silver all in one. And so, it's serving two purposes.
One, it works in combination with the amino acids to give those repaired cells some nutrition. And second, it serves as a really powerful antioxidant, which helps reduce inflammation, which is really important when you've got an injured horse and trying to get the swelling and inflammation and things like that down. When you get into the performance and working horse, it works just as well in those scenarios as well, for the recovery and the stamina and everything else.
And just like the Equinety Horse XL, there are no fillers in this product, and it only comes in a half gallon due to the fact that there's no fillers. So, just high grade products, and the vast majority people see changes in 30 days or less. Oftentimes, it's even within days, but in the 30 day mark is pretty comfortable.
I'm pretty comfortable telling people that, which is really what you experienced, Maegan, was in the 30 days. And then, by the time you got into the 60 day mark, you're back going strong and haven't looked back, it sounds like.
Maegan Teykl:
Yes, sir, exactly.
John Dowdy:
Yeah. So, what are some of the other things that you've noticed with your horses, your getting back in, or have been back in full work and preparing for shows? What are some of the other benefits and things that you've seen just since using the product?
Maegan Teykl:
One of the biggest things was that knowing she'd been off for that many months and coming back onto a work schedule and starting to kind of go back into some training. I was really anticipating her to be, in a sense, fresh and just ... She loves it all, and I was expecting her to be just overeager, and I guess in a sense overzealous. And she has been nothing but calm, focused, and so willing to get back into a routine, and wants to be there.
John Dowdy:
Right. Now, have you noticed in regards to recovery and the stamina since ... As you mentioned, she's been off all this time? Did she have any trouble getting back going again, or did she just kind of start where she left off months ago?
Maegan Teykl:
I feel like she has started where she left off, and that has been fantastic. Hasn't had a lot of issues with muscle soreness, and that surprised me.
John Dowdy:
Yeah. And that's something we hear a lot, especially in the performance horse world where they're hauling all over the place. And oftentimes where they would typically have to rest their horse sometimes two or three days, and now it seems to be a one day rest. And interestingly enough, in the last few days I've had several people tell me about that, where in the barrel horse world, they run the pattern, and usually their horse would have to take a while to recover.
And now it's just like, they take one breath and it's like, "That was it. I'm better now." So, it definitely is a great product for recovery, amongst so many other things. So, you also had mentioned to me in the pre-call, you've got another mare that's come on board, so you just started her on both of these products over the last couple of weeks. And so, what's the story with her?
Maegan Teykl:
I just recently acquired her. She's a four year old mare. And she's just been used out here on the ranch, and I'm going to give her a shot, a little [inaudible 00:10:08] horse show career. So I got her right at two to three weeks ago. And when I got her, I said, "You know what? I've loved these two products that's enough. And I think it's making a world of difference. And so, I'm going to use them on her."
And she's a little bit leaner right now. She needs a little more weight put on her, and muscle mass. She's just now coming on four, so she's kind of at that bloom age anyway. And so, I'm excited to watch what these products can do for her overall body score and condition.
John Dowdy:
Right, yeah. Yeah. And I think too, you had mentioned to me that you had taken some before photos, so maybe by the time the podcast is published, you'll have some 30 day picks, which will be in a couple of weeks and we can show the before and after.
Maegan Teykl:
Okay.
John Dowdy:
And I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. So, it's pretty darn common. Overall body score and just ... I think the best description that people have given us, these products just really help balance the horse from the inside out, is probably the best way to describe what's going on.
Maegan Teykl:
Yes, sir.
John Dowdy:
Yeah. So, well, awesome. Well, if there's anybody tuning in that has been doing their research and they've listened to this podcast and they're thinking to themselves, "Well, it sounds pretty good, but I'm still on the fence," is there anything that you would have to say to them to maybe get off the fence and try the products?
Maegan Teykl:
I can say that they are completely worthwhile. It is definitely for the ... You get the biggest bang for your buck with these products, I can say, because I fed a vitamin E supplement as a top dress prior to. And knowing that you get the vitamin E plus the omegas and the colloidal silver in the OEC, and that the Horse XL does so much good, and it's just ... There's no loading dose. And it just takes a little bit every day. It makes it one of the best products to put in your regimen.
John Dowdy:
Yeah, that is great. And there's a lot of people that are surprised too, even with the little amount that you give, but it goes to show the quality of what it is and what it's specifically designed to do. Now, we've had a lot of people just through the years that just since using the Horse XL by itself - but now that we've added the OEC - just by adding these products to their program, they're saving anywhere from 20 to 40% in medical bills, as well as other supplements, because it does so much for their horses.
And I think it's important too to point out - we get this question a lot - if they start using these products, should they stop using other things? And we always recommend to not change anything you're doing and just add this to it. And that way, you know it's the only element you've changed. And then over the next couple of weeks to 30 days, you can decide whether to reduce or stop using other things.
So, that's the feedback and some of the questions we've had in regards to that. Well, before we sign off, is there anything else you'd like to add for anybody tuning in out there?
Maegan Teykl:
Yeah. It is completely worth it, and thank you all for making such a great product.
John Dowdy:
Well, you're very welcome. We're definitely blessed to have this kind of impact on the horse industry, for sure. Well, Maegan Teykl, out of West Texas Panhandle, thank you so much for taking the time to share your story here on the Equinety podcast.
Maegan Teykl:
Yes, sir. And thank you very much.
John Dowdy:
All right. Thank you. Bye-bye.
Maegan Teykl:
Bye.
